Contra Dance Saturday with Steve Z-A, Dave & Colin

Past event
Sep 21, 2019, 7:30 to 11 PM

Join us for another excellent Montpelier Contra dance, with Steve Zakon-Anderson calling, and exciting music by Dave Langford & Colin McCaffrey on Saturday night, at the Capital City Grange, for your dancing enjoyment.

Steve will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, and will teach and call enjoyable, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. If you are new to this type of dancing, or would like a refresher on the basics, come on over for the intro session.  Steve is a Massachusetts-based caller who calls for dances like ours, and dance festivals all over the Northeast, and as far away as Alaska, Texas and Florida. A friendly and enthusiastic teacher, he'll make sure you and the whole crowd will have a good time. He'll likely call some of his own dances along with those by other callers.  Steve will be calling this evening's dances using the Gents & Ladies role terms.

Dave & Colin have played for our dance and many others for decades—providing an amazing amount of music from "just" a fiddle and guitar. They weave in rhythms and quotes from swing, jazz and maybe zydeco. You won't want to resist dancing to their music!

Join us for tasty potluck dinner from 6:00 to 7:00 at the Grange Hall. Share your favorite dish, or bring something simple, and enjoy good food and friendly people.

Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, $5 for kids & low-income. This dance is part of the year-round series at the Grange Hall.
