Last Knotweed/Invasives Work Party

Past event
Sep 21, 2019, 9 AM to 12 PM

The next (and last for the "summer") Underhill invasive species work party is this Saturday, September 21st, from 9 a.m. until noon.

We will meet at the Town Hall and carpool out to the Crane Brook Conservation District, just past the Town garage on New Road. If we have enough people, we may also work in Moore Park. Although we'd love to have your help for the full three hours, please feel free to come late or leave early. Any time you can contribute will be greatly appreciated!

Our objective is to control the Japanese knotweed that threatens the Crane Brook (and other waterways). Our hope is that we can use mechanical means to control the knotweed and that we won't have to resort to herbicides. If we want to be successful, we need to work on the knotweed every 3 weeks throughout the summer.

If you're one of the people concerned about the use of glyphosate, we could use your help! We haven't had much luck getting help from the 25 or so people who raised their hands at the meeting last fall when we asked who would be willing to help work on the knotweed so that we could hopefully avoid using glyphosate. This is your last chance to help out this season!

To help us get a sense of the number of people who will be attending, please complete this quick form at http://tiny.cc/uccinv.

This week we will focus on cutting rather than digging the knotweed. Please bring loppers if you have them. If enough people show up, we may also do some digging, so feel free to bring shovels, mattocks, and pulaskis as well.

Thanks!
