Community Bittersweet Removal Along the Bike Path

Neighbors,

I have been watching the highly invasive Asiatic bittersweet vines climb up the trunks and into the canopies of many of the trees along the bike path all season and have finally reached my tipping point. If you don't know about this plant, learn more about it and the damage it causes here: https://www.vtinvasives.org/invasive/bittersweet-asiatic.

With permission from Burlington Parks, Recreation, & Waterfront, I will be manually removing as much of the bittersweet as possible along the bike path between Shore Road and Leddy Park this Saturday morning from 8:30-10am. If you are interested in joining me, I'd gladly accept the help. Bring work gloves and pruners/loppers if you have them. We'll pile the vines and Parks staff will pick it up over the weekend and properly dispose of the plants.

Please send me a quick email at eschadler@gmail.com if you're interested in helping! Or, cheer me on if you're on the bike path on Saturday morning.

I recognize that there are many other invasive plant issues along the bike path and in our neighborhood. But we've gotta start somewhere!

Thanks,
Elise
