THE STOCKBRIDGE-GAYSVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY invites you to a public lecture with discussion following by Dr. Sherry Ackerman. The focus will be on Brownson's search for authority in democratic America, exploring Brownson's concepts of the nature of liberty, the relationship of Church and State, viewpoints on rugged individualism and Brownson's ideas about human nature and the potential for any real progress.
Dr. Ackerman has taught nineteenth century Intellectual History with an emphasis on the interplay between religious and secular cultural development, at the College of the Siskiyous, CA.
