Opening for Barre Reads 2019 at Aldrich Library

Past event
Sep 17, 2019, 6 to 7:30 PM

Join us on Tuesday (9/17) at 6:00PM at the Aldrich Library for our Vermont Reads opening event with local author Kekla Magoon. Every year, people throughout the state celebrate literacy by reading the same book. This year's book selection, graphic novel "March: Book One" by civil rights leader John Lewis, tells of the author's childhood in rural Alabama, his life-changing interactions with Martin Luther King, Jr., and the nonviolent sit-ins he joined at lunch counters in Nashville as a means of undermining segregation. Copies of the book will be available at the Library for the event. Our guest speaker, Kekla Magoon, will address the themes of activism and social justice. Kekla's works, X: A Novel, The Rock and the River, Fire in the Streets, and the Shadows of Sherwood series, make her an engaging and knowledgeable speaker for children, teens, and adults.
