Green Mountain Weavers and Spinners Guild Meeting

Past event
Sep 18, 2019, 7 to 9 PM

Green Mountain Weavers & Spinners Guild will start their 2019/2020 monthly programs Wednesday, September 18. Please join us at 7 p.m. for illustrated talks by long-time members Abbie Hatton and Jacqueline Fowler. Abbie will present a history of our 40+ years of connecting with each other to provide fellowship, learning experiences, and refinement of our skills as fiber artists. Jacquie will continue our look at traditions in American weaving, with an overview of weaving techniques and patterns used in southern Louisiana (Cajun) and Appalachia.

Monthly meetings on the third Wednesday take place at All Saints Episcopal Church Parish Hall, Summer Street (next to Post Office), North Adams. The theme of our October meeting will be "Spindle Spinning," with a history of this initial and ancient type of spinning. Several members will present different areas of the world where spindle spinning began and continues to this day. There will be demonstrations of spindle spinning, including Turkish and Navajo, and an extensive display of spindles.

Other programs planned for the coming year are natural dyeing, kumihimo braiding, finishing techniques, plus workshops and field trips. For more information, contact Martha at crowhilrd@yahoo.com or Tony at antpisano@hotmail.com
