As part of its "Vermont Life" Skill Share program series, the Pawlet Public Library will present Forestry 101 in three sessions on Saturdays, September 21, October 5, and October 19, from 3-4 p.m. at the library. The programs are free.
Pawlet forester Gabe Russo will provide information on how to manage your woods, harvest trees, and prepare or purchase firewood for your home. In the first session, Gabe will talk about the basics of forest management, consulting foresters, and the benefits of active forest management. In the second session, he will discuss what to expect when timber is harvested, including equipment and how wood is marketed. In the last session, he will provide tips on firewood: where and when to buy, split or log length, stacking and best species to burn. Recommended for anyone who wants to master these skills before winter.
