Past event
Sep 25, 2019, 5:30 to 8:30 PM

OK - we know. Coming out to view a film about suicide doesn't seem like a fun time. And it may not be. But coming out to see the film "Suicide: The Ripple Effect" may be one of the most important things you can do.

In Vermont, suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 15-44 and the 4th leading cause of death for ages 45-54. On average one person dies by suicide every 3 days in the state of Vermont. As a community Craftsbury has experienced several deaths by suicide, most recently Wesly Warren in 2017.

The Craftsbury Mental Health Resources Group sponsors this showing of "Suicide: The Ripple Effect." The film chronicles Kevin Hines' personal journey. He attempted to take his own life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge at age nineteen. The film explores the ripple effect his action has on those who have been impacted by his suicide attempt and his life's work since. In addition, the film highlights the stories of individuals and families who are utilizing their personal tragedy to bring hope and healing to others.

The film will be shown Wednesday, September 25, in the 1958 Room at Sterling College (Simpson Hall). We'll start at 5:30 for pizza and snacks. The film will begin at 6pm, followed by a discussion, including a panel of community members. In addition we'll have a raffle with amazing prizes!

Even if you have not been personally affected by suicide, our community has. Let's come together and protect against further deaths by suicide.
