In 1778, a skirmish took place between a small force of Vermont militiamen and a British raiding party in Shelburne, VT. Known as the Battle of Pierson's blockhouse, the battle caused the death of three Vermonters, Joseph Woodward, Samuel Daniels and Barnabus Barnum, one of the original Green Mountain Boys.
