Past event
Sep 16, 2019, 6 to 8:30 PM

The Calais and E. Montpelier Historical Societies will jointly host a free program about the infamous "Carr murder", which occurred on remote Hawkins Ledge in the NW corner of Calais, in 1878. Speaker will be Jill Mudgett, Ph.D., a cultural historian, who teaches at CCV and NVU-Johnson. She has done extensive research on the murder of William Murcormuck by Royal Carr. The program will begin at 7 PM, at the Post Office building in E. Calais Village. A potluck supper will be held at 6, at the same location. Bring a plate and utensils and whatever food you wish to contribute. The public is welcome to attend any or all the evening's activities. The two societies will each hold a brief business meeting following the program. Membership information will be available, or can be had by responding to this post.
