Wardsboro Curtain Call presents Patty Carpenter and special guest Verandah Porche on Saturday, September 21st at 7 pm in Wardsboro Town Hall. They will be performing old favorites and new original songs. The two women have been life long friends and collaborators and the new songs represent some of their work together since the 2010 release of their cd, Come Over.

Carpenter sings with a number of local bands around New England as well as in New York City. These include Patty and the Cakes, The Patty Carpenter Jazz Band and the Dysfunctional Family Jazz Band (DFJB), a Brooklyn based collective with four family members that has a compelling Jazz/Americana/Soul/Folk sound. Patty studied jazz at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, with the great Archie Shepp and Max Roach, and was heavily influenced by many great women artists from Joan Baez and Roseanne Cash to Billie Holiday and Carmen McCrae.

Porche has published Sudden Eden (Verdant Books), The Body's Symmetry (Harper and Row) and Glancing Off (See Through Books), and has pursued an alternative literary career, creating collaborative writing projects in nontraditional settings. The Vermont Arts Council presented her with its Award of Merit in 1998, and its first Ellen McCulloch-Lovell Award in Arts Education in 2015, and Marlboro College, an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 2012. Shedding Light on the Working Forest, a collaboration with visual artist Kathleen Kolb, is currently showing around New England. Carpenter and Porche were featured in Freedom and Unity: The Vermont Movie.

Reviewing the Come Over album, Jon Potter writes in the Brattleboro Reformer: "Come Over is a CD on which all the pieces fit; one whose diverse songs tell an engaging, coherent story. It's a seasoned, soulful work with depth and real feeling to go with strong chops. It is emotionally rich without being contrived; grown-up and serious but still with time to dream and dance."

Doors open at 6:30; admission is $10 at the door; BYOB. For more information, email kwkmdavis@yahoo.com
