English Country Dance

Past event
Sep 13, 2019, 7 to 9:30 PM

No prior experience needed, just the ability to walk briskly. Best suited for teens and adults, this form of recreational social dance dates back to the Elizabethan period (and was quite important to one's social standing and education in British novelist Jane Austen's time). It continues to be a popular -- and alcohol-free -- activity/hobby today all over the U.S.

This evening is FREE for ages 35 years old and under. For those over 36, we ask for a donation of $10-$15 (sliding scale, pay what you can).
All dances are taught, walked through (to get the movements in your head and feet), and then prompted while everyone moves to the music.
Join us in the Big Hall at Elley-Long Music Center, 223 Ethan Allen Ave., Colchester, VT. 7pm to 9:30pm. Casual dress. Potluck "finger food" snacks. Bring a pair of non-marking, clean-soled shoes to wear on the dance floor (sneakers, mules, flip flops are not great choices for dancing). Attend on your own or with a partner; we change partners frequently!

Music by Peter Macfarlane (violin), Aaron Marcus (piano), Sarah Babbitt Spaeth (viola). Calling/teaching by Val Medve (just back from calling at Pinewoods Dance Camp).
