The Sky Blue Boys, Banjo Dan and Willy Lindner, Come Back to the Tinmouth Old Firehouse on September 13
The Sky Blue Boys, long time favorites of the enthusiastic crowds at the Old Firehouse, open the fall season at the Tinmouth Old Firehouse on Friday, September 13. Willy and Dan are Vermont originals. They have revived the tradition of "brothers duets" from the 30's and 40's. Two fellows with a mandolin and a banjo, a musical teamwork built of habit, their voices fused in the special blend produced by kinship. It's that clean, evocative sound The Sky Blue Boys now recreate for audiences throughout the Northeast… a reminder of things past, and of things constant.
They have built up a large repertoire of wonderful old ballads, parlor songs, heart songs and sacred numbers. Heeding their own musical instincts they have expanded the accompaniment to include a variety of acoustic instruments and added many newer songs. Several of their own compositions are based on happenings in Vermont – such as The Cat is Back, a celebration of the Vermont catamount.
Willy and Dan have played together for decades. They formed the celebrated Vermont bluegrass band Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys in 1972 and have toured and recorded extensively in that context, as well as sitting in on shows and recording sessions for many of the region's top acoustic musicians. But never far from their hearts were the sounds they learned to love long ago – the simple moving sounds of the early "brothers duets."
The concert is at 7:30 on September 13; doors open at 7:00. Coffee and tea will be hot soon after the doors open; refreshments available as well. Donation for the concert is $10-15. 90% goes to the musicians; 10% to the town for maintenance of the Old Firehouse. Donations for the refreshments go to support local projects. The Old Firehouse is at 9 Mountain View Road at the intersection of Vermont 140 and Mountain View Road, next to the new Firehouse in the heart of downtown Tinmouth.
