Contra Dance Saturday—with ALL the instruments

Luke Donforth will call, and "Turning Stile +" will play on their wide assortment of musical instruments on Saturday night, at the Capital City Grange, for your dancing enjoyment.

Luke will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, and will teach and call enjoyable, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. If you are new to this type of dancing, or would like a refresher on the basics, come on over for the intro session.

Luke is a Vermont-based caller who calls for dances like ours all over the Northeast, and beyond. A friendly and enthusiastic teacher, he'll make sure you and the whole crowd will have a good time. He'll likely call some of his own dances along with those by other callers. Luke will be calling this evening's dances using the Larks & Ravens role terms.

"Turning Stile +" is a four-person band including Aaron Marcus, Joanne Garton, Simeon Chapin and Hollis Easter. Among them, they play piano, concertina, banjo, foot percussion, fiddle, bag-pipes, flute, mandolin, guitar, hand-drums and drum kit. Lots of great tunes, with dance rhythms and music from American traditional and world music roots.

Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our inclusive group, and bring your friends along!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, $5 for kids & low-income. This dance is part of the year-round series at the Grange Hall.
