Underhill Invasives Work Party This Saturday

Past event
Sep 7, 2019, 9 AM to 12 PM

The next Underhill invasive species work party is this Saturday, September 7th, from 9 a.m. until noon. We'll hold another work party on Saturday, September 21st from 9:00 am - noon.

We will meet at the Town Hall and carpool out to the Crane Brook Conservation District, just past the Town garage on New Road. Although we'd love to have your help for the full three hours, please feel free to come late or leave early. Any time you can contribute will be greatly appreciated!

Our objective is to control the Japanese knotweed that threatens the Crane Brook. Our hope is that we can use mechanical means to control the knotweed and that we won't have to resort to herbicides. If we want to be successful, we need to work on the knotweed every 3 weeks throughout the summer.

If you're one of the people concerned about the use of glyphosate, we could use your help! If we get enough people to sign up, we will each only need to help out once or twice during the summer.

To help us get a sense of the number of people who will be attending this and future work parties, please complete this quick form at http://tiny.cc/uccinv.

This week we will focus on cutting rather than digging the knotweed. Please bring loppers if you have them. If enough people show up, we may also do some digging, so feel free to bring shovels, mattocks, and pulaskis as well.

Thanks!

Member of the Underhill Invasive Species Task Force
