The City of Winooski and Watersheds United Vermont Presents the Winooski River Cleanup!

9 AM - 1 PM / Saturday, September 14, 2019 (Rain Date: 9/21/19)

September is Vermont's River Cleanup Month! The City of Winooski is joining Watersheds United Vermont in hosting a river cleanup event. For years, local watershed groups and other volunteers in Vermont have organized river cleanups to remove trash that has accumulated in our waterways. Trash in rivers and lakes not only creates an eyesore for paddlers and swimmers, but it also negatively impacts riparian wildlife and adds pollutants to our waters. In 2014, the Vermont legislature, recognizing the importance of river cleanups, designated September as Vermont's official River Cleanup Month.

Let's keep the Winooski River Clean! Winooski Recreation and Parks invite you to help us in this effort by cleaning the full length of the Winooski River that runs through our City. We're looking for volunteers of all ages and abilities - this event is free and open to all but requires registration. Experienced kayakers/canoers - we want your help! Please be sure to let us know you intend on using your kayak or canoe, and please bring a life jacket/PFD if you plan to boat. Participants can:

- remove trash and debris from a riverbank
- help with invasive species removal
- pick up trash along the surrounding trails
