ArtRokeby
Exhibit Opening & Art Festival
Saturday, August 24, 2019
11 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
This Saturday it's all about art at Rokeby Museum. Events for children and adults are planned to take place throughout the day.
STRUCTURES, a new exhibit of contemporary sculpture installed in and among Rokeby's buildings and grounds opens with a talk with exhibit curator Ric Kasini Kadour. From modernist bird houses to barns and houses reimagined, the exhibit features the work of a range of artists, including, from a private collection, "Miss Christie's Smoke House" and "Button Shack" by renowned African American artist Beverly Buchanan (1940-2015).
Drop-in events include a gelli print post card workshop for kids, a "visual memoirs" artist talk and demo with Anne Cummings, artist talk with Robert Hertizig about his road-calming bumper stickers and site art, a walk-about with photographer Stephen Schaub with tips for using film, tours of the historic Robinson family home, and an introduction to Robinson family artist Rachael Robinson Elmer through selections of her studies on paper, cardboard and canvas from the museum's art storage.
Read more about Structures (on view through October 27) and ArtRokeby activities. Rain or shine.
