Middlebury College's Office of Digital Learning (DLINQ) is hosting its first MiddView Trip this fall for incoming first year students, with activities focused on digital fluency, digital learning, and privacy. On September 8, our MiddView Trip participants will spend an afternoon with Addison Central Teens, an organization for local area teens, and together we're throwing a CRYPTOPARTY!
What's a cryptoparty, you ask?
A cryptoparty is an event focused on helping people take more control over their data and privacy, by thinking critically about the digital tools and environments we use daily. Our cryptoparty aims to help young people learn about how their data is being tracked through digital technologies and how they can take action to protect themselves. They'll learn how to use privacy oriented browsing and search tools, protect information on phones from data collection or theft, use social media more safely, and much more! This is their chance to start building their digital security / data protection toolkit.
Participants will need to bring their phone and/or laptop (or whatever other devices they use to connect to the internet) to this workshop. The workshop is open to ALL youth 7th-12th grade in Addison County of ANY skill level. Snacks provided!
