THE VERMONT JAZZ ENSEMBLE TO PERFORM
AT THE HISTORIC GRAND ISLE LAKE HOUSE, SUNDAY AUGUST 11 AT 6:30 PM.
Island Arts is happy to announce the Concert of the The acclaimed Vermont Jazz Ensemble, Sunday August 11, at 6:30p.m. at the Grand Isle Lake House, rain or shine. The Vermont Jazz Ensemble is a 17 member instrumental music group that performs music, most of which is in the Jazz or "Big Band" style, although the repertoire also includes "Latin", "Rock", "Fusion", and music which is currently "Popular".
The instrumentation includes 5 WOODWINDS (usually 2 alto saxes, 2 tenor saxes, and 1 baritone sax - these players "double" on saxes, clarinet, and flute), 4 TROMBONES (one is a bass trombone), 4 TRUMPETS (these players "double" on flugelhorn), DRUMS, BASS, PIANO, and GUITAR.
The "VJE" maintains a performing library of approximately 500 selections, including music made popular by the bands and orchestras of COUNT BASIE, GLENN MILLER, DUKE ELLINGTON, STAN KENTON, WOODY HERMAN, TOMMY AND JIMMY DORSEY, MAYNARD FERGUSON, and many other "name" bands, as well as recently and currently popular music.
Every performance features ensemble work, sectional and individual solos, and improvisation.
"VJE" was first included on the Vermont Council on the Arts Touring Register in 1977, and every year since then "VJE" has done numerous concerts, workshops, clinics, and dances sponsored in part by the V.C.A Before the end of its first year, "VJE" was performing publicly on the average of once every week, an average still maintained to this day.
Now celebrating 42 years of moonlight (and daylight ! ) in Vermont, "VJE" has grown to include over 350 associate members who substitute superbly for the regular and charter members when they must miss an event due to a prior commitment or illness. And the group still gets together to rehearse and "jam" every two weeks, as it was originally agreed, back in 1976.
Bring your own picnic, lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the music. Gates open at 5:30 pm for picnicking, concert starts at 6:30pm. Advance tickets are $20 and can be purchased online at islandarts.org or at the Alburgh library, the Isle La Motte Country Store, The Back Chamber in North Hero or in South Hero at The Green Frog and Hackett's Orchard. Tickets are $25 at the door. In case of rain the concert will take place either on the porch or inside the large space of the historic Grand Isle Lake House building.
