As a part of the Greensboro Free Library's continuing summer reading program theme "A Universe of Stories" celebrating Space and the Apollo 11 landing on the moon 50 years ago we will be taking a field trip to visit the Northern Skies Observatory in Peacham. Built in 2012 the Northern Skies Observatory has been the site of regular public observation events such as the Venus Transit in June 2012. All ages are welcome to join us for this free opportunity to visit the observatory Friday August 9th (Raindate August 10th) 7-9pm. Astronomer Brad Vietje will talk about Astronomy, telescopes, what's happening in the sky, and field partcipant questions. Families will be able to look through the solar telescope as well as the night time telescope after dark. We will meet at the Greensboro Free Library to caravan to the observatory at 6pm.
Please note that Pre-Registration is required as there is a cap on how many folks can fit in the observatory space. Please contact Youth Librarian Emily Purdy at greensborokids@gmail.com to pre-register for this free event or with questions.
