Come See the Daylilies!

Past event
Aug 4, 2019, 9 AM to 3 PM

Stop by on Sunday, August 4th, and see multiple plantings of lovely, colorful, hybrid daylilies at two separate gardens, located within about two miles of each other. Many of these daylilies are multiple award winners. One garden is on Poker Hill Road, in Underhill, and the other is on Allen Irish Road in Underhill/Westford. One garden specializes in purples and lavenders, one in reds, but there are MANY colors in between. These are one-woman operations, works-in-progress, and you will see stray weeds, pots, and piles of both. However, we think the beauty of the daylilies is too wonderful not to share with others, and we would love to share them with you. We have many years of experience, tips, and advice as well.

It is good to wear boots or sturdy shoes as the ground can be uneven. (and might still be damp) Some of the purples that have gone by will weep color so wear clothes that are washable - as it usually washes out easily. You might wish to wear a hat for the sun, and insect repellent for the pesky deer flies.

We will start at the garden of Susan Skelly, located at 502 Poker Hill Rd.; the newest American Hemerocallis Society designated Display Garden for our area, from about 9am to 12 noon. Bring your camera!

From 12:00noon to about 3:00pm we head over the gardens of Deb and Warren Kiel, located at 147 Allen Irish Rd. (The Underhill side of Allen Irish Rd. is located directly across from Bill Cook Rd. - which is the upper outlet for Poker Hill Rd.) You may wish to stay later, as Deb's garden will be open until dusk.

Many colors and varieties of daylillies will be available for purchase at Deb's garden. Some will already be dug and ready for purchase, some will need to be pre-ordered for pick up at a later date. There will also be a select number of free daylilies available so you may want to bring a bucket or waterproof container to keep the roots moist.

If you have questions give Susan a call @ 899-1983 We look forward to seeing you - and showing you that there is much more to growing daylilies than the orange ones we see blooming along our roadways! (We love those too!)
