Preparing for Mental and Emotional Wellness in College: A Workshop for Rising College First-Years

Workshop Description:

The transition from high school to college can be a difficult one, even for the most academically advanced students. That's because students are often not fully prepared for emotional changes they'll experience when starting college for the first time. This 3-hour workshop is designed to help emotionally prepare young adults for their first year of college. It's full of practical, specific information to help students adjust more quickly to independence in a new setting.

Objectives:

- Learn what to expect from the college transition and how to recognize unrealistic expectations
- Learn coping skills to deal with the transition and stress
- Better understand the components of mental health and how to maintain it
- Identify the signs of mental health struggles (depression, anxiety, suicidal thinking, etc.)
- Know what steps to take and which resources to use when these symptoms arise
