This Wednesday July 31st, Vermont Pride Theater at Chandler presents a free-by-donation showing of the 2005 Oscar-winning film "Brokeback Mountain" in air-conditioned Chandler Music Hall in Randolph. Proceeds will benefit regional AIDS service organizations Vermont CARES and the HIV/HCV Resource Center.
Brokeback Mountain is a 2005 American romantic drama film, directed by Ang Lee and produced by Diana Ossana and James Schamus. It was adapted from a 1997 short story of the same name by Annie Proulx, with the screenplay written by Ms. Ossana and Larry McMurtry. Starring Heath Ledger, Jake Gyllenhaall, Anne Hathaway, and Michelle Williams, it depicts the complex emotional and sexual relationship between fictional cowboys Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist in the US west, from 1963 to 1983. The film was nominated for eight Academy Awards, and won three: Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Original Score.
Starting at 6:15 PM that evening, Valley Bowl will be providing free popcorn and a cash bar. Arriving early will give you a chance to check out Vermont CARES' table, stocked with interesting items and information. This statewide non-profit works for and with Vermonters affected by HIV/AIDS to promote their well-being through a continuum of prevention, support, and advocacy services. Again, entrance to the film is free when a donation of any size is made to Vermont CARES or the HIV/HCV Resource Center.
