Coming to the Highland Center for the Arts:
From his early years playing blues and jazz guitar with artists ranging from Muddy Waters to Bobby McFerrin to his present multi-faceted career based in northern Vermont, Chicago native Paul Asbell has earned a reputation as a true “musician’s musician.” He performs at HCA as the Paul Asbell Blues Trio featuring legendary blues harp master Jerry Portnoy, whose career includes six years as a member of the Muddy Waters Blues band, and another four years as a featured member of the Eric Clapton band. Rounding out the trio is Clyde Stats on bass, another veteran of the Chicago blues scene, who has performed with a variety of blues artists such as Howlin’ Wolf, Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, and Otis Rush.
