3rd Bike Instead of Drive Ride

Past event
Jul 28, 2019, 12:30 to 3:30 PM

DATE: Sunday, 7/28/19

TIME: 12:30 PM (earlier than the first two trips)

PLACE: The Montpelier High School rear parking lot

TRIP OPTIONS (as of now):

(1) Carpooling to the scenic, rolling and only occasionally hilly Stowe bicycle and pedestrian path (around 15 cycling miles round trip),

(2) Carpooling to the flat and scenic Burlington bike and pedestrian path that borders Lake Champlain, (also around 15 cycling miles round trip), or

(3) Cycling from our meeting point to route 12 to the Wrightsville Dam beach, where we can swim (around 12 miles round trip).

The first two options depend on enough bike racks on cars of those people who arrive at our meeting place by auto and are willing to accommodate carpool passengers. And speaking of carpooling, our "Bike Instead of Drive" name does not mean that no one is expected to stop using his or her car for any purpose whatever. Rather it's hoped that people who don't currently bike with some regularity will enjoy our trips enough to gradually pump fewer pollutants into our atmosphere by using their bikes more frequently for errands and excursions they might previously have thought impossible. Carpooling to Stowe or Burlington will take us to bike routes with less car traffic and mountains to climb than our immediate Montpelier / Washington County area.

So take a chance and join us! Assuming people are not just trying to be polite, I've so far heard nothing but enthusiastic reactions to our first two excursions. I enjoyed them, too!
