The Middlebury Farmers' Market is excited to host its Family Day event this Saturday, July 27th from 9am-12:30pm. This special event features nonprofits and educational activities to increase youth engagement with the local food systems and broader community.
Family Day will feature the launch of the Power of Produce (POP) Club. The program, which will run every Saturday in August, offers a chance for children to explore the Farmers' Market and learn about the different varieties of fruits and vegetables produced in Addison County while also learning about how food is grown, and connecting them with local farmers. This Saturday, the PoP Club will host a scavenger hunt and a planting activity. Middlebury Agway generously donated the seeds for the planting activity. The PoP Club is made possible by the generous sponsorship of a number of local businesses including Porter Hospital/Rise VT and Kiss the Cook.
Family Day this Saturday will also kick off the Middlebury Farmer's Market Teen Enterprise Zone, a vendor booth space dedicated solely to Addison County teens who are interested in selling things they grow or make themselves. The Teen Enterprise Zone is made possible by the generous support of local businesses such as Denecker Chevrolet and Vermont Community Credit Union.
Additional family-focused activities at the Farmer's Market on this Saturday include Addison County Readers, a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to promoting early literacy and future school success, and the WIC Program from the Vermont Department of Health in Middlebury, that will both have booths in celebration of Family Day along with the Market's usual free music offerings.
