On Town Meeting Day the Highgate Arena Bond vote lost by 21 votes. The Highgate Arena Renovation Team (HART) needs to hear from voters to decide where to go from here. After 35 plus years, the ice system needs to be replaced and the building needs improvements. Highgate owns this building and needs to decide its future.
It is critical that Highgate voters understand that the $196,000 HUD grant needs to be used by September 2015 or it is gone. By Vermont statutes, there can only be 2 bond votes in a 12 month period. A bond would need to be approved in 2014 so that the final project design can go out to bid in late 2014 and construction would start in March 2015. We need to understand the option Highgate voters will support!
