Bikes on the Brain? Come to Our Public Meeting!

Past event
Jul 25, 2019, 6 to 8 PM

Hi everyone! We've noticed that bikes have been a hot topic on FPF lately. It makes for perfect timing to remind you of the first of two public meetings we're holding about the Main and Barre Streets corridors study! The potential changes to these corridors could improve the safety of pedestrians as well as cyclists on roads. I wheelie, wheelie hope you can attend! (Read on for more opportunities to discuss pedestrian and cyclists safety).

Since February of 2018, the City has been working with engineering consultants DuBois & King on a scoping study for the Main Street and Barre Street corridors. The purpose of the study was to investigate and analyze existing conditions in that area and develop a preferred alternative design that will improve connectivity for pedestrians and BICYCLES.

Mayor Watson, City staff and DuBois & King engineers will be holding two more public meetings to present options for conventional and alternative transportation improvements to the Barre and Main Street corridors. The public is invited and encouraged to attend, offer input, and ask questions. Below are the upcoming meetings:

1) Thursday, July 25, 2019, 6-8 PM: Montpelier Senior Activity Center, 58 Main Street Residents of and those who frequent the Barre Street and Barre/Main Streets Intersection are encouraged to attend this meeting, though it is open to all. Light refreshments will be served.

2) Wednesday, July 31, 2019, 6-8 PM: Kellogg Hubbard Library, 135 Main Street

However, if you are unable to attend either meeting and would like information about the project, please visit https://www.montpelier-vt.org/barremaincorridor or contact Corey Line, Project Manager, at cline@montpelier-vt.org.

***In addition to these meetings, as part of a scheduled "tune-up" of all our our City ordinances this year, City Council will be reviewing the ordinance chapter that has been cited regarding bikes. That will be happening in the fall, and I will let you all know specifically when we get closer to the date.***

Sincerely,

Jamie Granfield-Carroll
