Westminster Garden Tour 2019

Past event
Jul 20, 10 AM to 3 PM, Jul 21, 2019

Please join us for the 18th Annual Westminster Garden Tour 2019 to be held the weekend of July 20-21, featuring the gardens of Gordon and Mary Hayward, Cyndy Fine of Genius Loci and the Laughlin Family Farm (in Putney.) The Garden Tour is the major fundraising event for Westminster Cares and all proceeds from the event go to supporting our healthy aging programs and services for older adults and adults with disabilities.

We are extremely grateful to our sponsors whose support makes this event possible:

Mascoma Bank; Silver Forest; C & S; Faith's Toyota/Ford; Savings Bank of Walpole; Vermont Country Store; People's United Bank and The Windham Foundation.

Featured this year are the stone sculptures of Miles Chapin. "Dwelling in Stone –A collaboration of stone sculpture and landscape design" is a solo show of 5 new sculptures set throughout the "rooms" of the Hayward Gardens. The show is open during the Garden Tour weekend, or by appointment only. The artist will be on hand throughout Garden Tour Weekend to answer questions about his work and will give a personal tour of his work on Sunday @ 1:00pm.

In addition to the Sculpture Tour, Special Events during Garden Tour weekend include a Walking Talk in her gardens by Caitlin Adair of the Living Earth Action Group (L.E.A.G.) titled, "How to be Kind to the Earth in Your Backyard". You've heard of regenerative agriculture, but how about regenerative gardening? Caitlin will discuss ways homeowners and gardeners can apply nature's practices and principles to their own property that are kind to the earth by building topsoil, sequestering carbon, and helping restore health to our Biosystems. This talk will be given on Saturday @ 1:30pm and Sunday @ 10:30am.

Access to these special events is included with the purchase of a Garden Tour Ticket. Please note that tickets can be used for either or both days of the Tour.

An additional offering is a personal tour of their gardens with the Haywards. Join Gordon and Mary on a guided walk around their gardens to learn the history of the land and their journey of developing the gardens. This tour starts at 3:00pm on Saturday only and requires an additional fee. Space is limited; call the office to reserve your space.

There is also a Garden Tour Raffle with over 10 fabulous prizes including a hand-made "garden and bee" themed quilt created and donated by Ann Ashcroft; garden supplies such as a rain barrel urn and mobile caddy for tools; and many wonderful gift certificates and items donated by local artisans and businesses. Tickets can be purchased prior to the Tour from Board Members or from the office in the Westminster Institute. Lunch and refreshments will be served all day in the "garden café" at the Haywards along with unique plants for sale from Morning Star Perennials. For more information or to purchase early-bird discounted tickets, please visit our website: www.westminstercares.org or call the office, 722-3607.
