The Newbury Historical Society invites you to celebrate Frances Parkinson Keyes' 134th birthday on SUNDAY, JULY 21 AT 4:00 PM AT THE NEWBURY CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH VESTRY.
This extraordinary woman will come to life with a program specially developed for the Newbury Historical Society by the Beauregard-Keyes House and Garden in New Orleans. Enjoy a biographical pictorial of her life, a virtual tour of the historic house that she restored to its Victorian glory, and anecdotes told by people who knew her in New Orleans.
Following the video, there will be a "live" FaceTime Q & A session with Lily Elkins, the curator of the New Orleans museum. You'll also be treated to a display that features Frances' wedding dress and other items from her life.
Frances Parkinson Keyes was raised in Newbury, then moved to Haverhill after her marriage (at the very same Congregational Church where we will be celebrating her birthday!), from there to Washington, D.C. to be a politician's wife, and finally to New Orleans, all the while continuing to spend summers in Newbury. A prolific writer over her lifetime, her books were mostly novels, but there were several notable exceptions, including books that chronicled her fascinating high-profile life.
Come honor this woman's memory and celebrate her legacy with birthday cake.
This program is free and open to the public. The Newbury Congregational Church Vestry is ADA accessible.
