8 Nights of Eight Nights - a Fundraiser for Refugees

Past event
Jul 22, 2019, 6 to 8 PM

We stood together last week for an emotional gathering in support for refugees at Lights for Liberty. Please join us again on Monday evening as we present a staged reading of EIGHT NIGHTS, a new play by award-winning playwright, Jennifer Maisel. As a unique national fundraiser for HIAS, the international refugee aid organization that was targeted in the Pittsburgh tragedy, the play is being presented in a series of eight staged readings across the country (Denver, DC, NYC, Chicago, LA...) JCOGS is proud to host night #4 and honored to bring this poignant play to Vermont.

EIGHT NIGHTS, directed by Wendi Stein of Theater Kavanah, gracefully weaves heart-aching moments with dark yet life-affirming humor, as it tells the story of a nineteen-year-old German-Jewish refugee forging a new life in America after surviving a concentration camp. Spanning eight decades of her life, the play explores the refugee experience, not just of Jewish immigrants, but also the trauma mirrored in the African-American community, the interned Japanese citizens, and the current Syrian crisis.

Following the staged reading please join us for a panel discussion moderated by an NPR journalist with playwright Jennifer Maisel, immigration lawyer Seth Lipschutz, Matt Thompson of Vermont Refugee Resettlement Program, and Edith Zfass, whose parents were refugees aided by HIAS.

Net proceeds go to HIAS. For tickets: http://bit.ly/jcogs8nights This event is presented as part of Stowe Arts Week.
