What happened in Vermont when the anti-Communist fear known as the “Red Scare” swept the country? Rick Winston, former owner of the Savoy Theater in Montpelier and now a film professor, explores through nine gripping dramas how a small, rural “rock-ribbed Republican” state with a historically libertarian streak handled the hysteria of the time. Far from the klieg lights of Washington D.C., Hollywood, and New York City, the Green Mountain state challenged the national narrative with its own fascinating stories.
After Rick’s talk, he will be joined by East Hardwick resident Charles Morrisey, former director of the Vermont Historical Society and one of the advisors on “Red Scare in the Green Mountains.” Charles will conduct an interview with Rick, to be followed by questions from the audience.
Registration is $12.
