Please join me and many of your neighbors this Friday, July 12, at 6 pm, as we participate in Lights for Liberty's national call to stop torturing and detaining refugees and asylum seekers in the borderlands. We will be one of more than 600 events, worldwide, demanding that the United States abandon these inhumane policies.
We will gather at College Park (next to the rotary in Middlebury, former site of the municipal building), hear a statement from our friends at Migrant Justice and share our commitment to closing these camps and honoring the human rights of all people, whatever their immigration status. We have signs and banners, mylar "blankets", and songs to sing. At around 6:30 pm, we'll head up Main Street to gather in front of the post office, so that those coming to Festival on the Green will see us. Around 7:15 pm, we'll put our signs away and join our friends on the Green.
We want to encourage you to BRING YOUR FRIENDS. People of good conscience all over the world are anguished about what is being done to families and children at the U.S. border, and with good reason. It's time to turn that grief and compassion into action- please SHOW UP!
