I wanted to let you know about a special School Board meeting at 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, March 20, at the Burlington High School cafeteria.

Late last week in a board Finance Committee meeting, some current and incoming School Board members heard from the district administration about an issue with the FY2014 tax rate for the current school year's budget (see district press release below). The entire 14-member board has not yet been brought up to speed on the issue; neither has the public.

The special board meeting will be a time for everyone to hear the details. In addition, we will discuss any ramifications for the yet-to-be-determined FY15 budget and discuss how and whether we proceed with a budget vote.

Burlington School District Special Board Meeting

Burlington, Vermont - March 19, 2014 - At the Board Finance Committee Meeting last Thursday, March 13th, the possibility that there is an error in the FY 2014 Tax Rate was explained. The District is looking into the error and working with the State to determine what the error might be and how it came to be.

The Board has set a Special Board Meeting for Thursday, March 20th at 7 p.m. in the Burlington High School Cafeteria in order to fully understand this issue, as well as to fully understand what steps are necessary for correcting the issue. This same information will be shared with the community at this meeting. The urgency of understanding the issue is necessary as the Board determines next steps for the FY 2015 Budget.
