Join staff from the Williston Planning and Zoning Department in an invasive plant species removal effort on your town land! The area surrounding the lookout at the Mud Pond Conservation Area is heavily inundated with invasive Glossy Buckthorn (Frangula alnus), Classified as a Class B Noxious Weed by the State of Vermont . This plant can increase the amount of nitrogen in the soil, impacting the composition of native species that can grow in the area. Left alone it forms dense thickets which crowd out native shrubs and understory plants. We will be pulling plants out by their roots using weed wrenches.
This work day will not only help the natural ecology around Mud Pond, but will help beautify and open the viewing area for folks to enjoy this season.
Meet us on Thursday, July 18th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at the Mud Pond Parking Lot. Wear sturdy work boots and gloves. Refreshments will be served after the work session, but do carry water and snacks for while we're working. Please contact planning technician Brad Falco at bfalco@willistonvt.org if you plan on attending. We hope to see you there!
