Hugh Coyle Speaks to Tinmouth Motley Writers' Group

Hugh Coyle*, professional writer and editor, will speak at The Tinmouth Library on Sunday afternoon, July 14th from 1:30-3:30. Come at 1:30 for a writers' workshop responding to the question "What was the most useful advice you received from your "first responder" (whomever you choose to respond to to your drafts), and what was the least helpful advice. Mostly I'll be addressing our own relationship as writers with language and the various ways that we either obey or break rules in order to express ourselves." Come at 1:30 to write and/or at 3:30 for Hugh's presentation of his own work.

We learned just days ago in The Manchester Guide that there will also be a program at The Old Firehouse: "Stories From The Farm." We regret the overlap. Many of us will head next door at 3:30 when Our program is complete.

*Hugh Coyle's poetry and prose publications include Ploughshares, The Boston Review, New England Review, Green Mountain Review, Scribner's American Writers, The Case Review and Christoper Street, among others. An MFA graduate of The University of Iowa Writers' workshop, he has received A Pushcart Prize, a fellowship at The Camargo Foundation in France, multiple scholarships at The Vermont Studio Center, a Heekin Award, and a grant from The Vermont Arts Council. For many years he managed the editorial services at Macmillan/McGraw Hill while also serving on the admissions board of The Bread Loaf Writers' Conference. His most recent project, a historical novel, reveals the origins of The Nobel Peace Prize and highlights the influential role of Bertha von Suttner, one of the 19th century's most prominent voices for peace.
