La Quinta Inn & Suites-St Albans continues the 29th year of Summer Sounds concerts at home in Highgate with singer-songwriter John Bartus straight from the Florida Keys in Highgate Municipal Park on Sunday at 7 p.m. Members of the Summer Sounds Young Stars will showcase a few numbers during the concert.
"I was so glad to entice John to bring his guitars for a visit," Dick Harper said. "This will be the most fun we can have without driving to the Keys."
Very few towns or cities could ever claim that their Mayor was a smokin' hot guitar player. The island city of Marathon in the Florida Keys is one of those towns. While politics is a temporary call to service, music is a life sentence. Mr. Bartus, a full-time pro with four decades in as musician, singer, and songwriter, continues to raise the bar with his groundbreaking solo show. He has love songs, love-gone-wrong songs, and story songs about characters like the fun-loving Joe from "Vegas Town," the Drifter from "Hit the Road Again," and the smuggler who ran out of luck in "Kiss Your Life Goodbye." There are songs about dealing with life and death and the tribute to the Apollo 1, Challenger, and Columbia astronauts as well as John's father, a Saturn IB launch engineer. And, of course, there are the Trop Rock songs that show the influence of living in a tropical island town for 30 years.
The Summer Sounds concerts are sponsored by the Town of Highgate and the All Arts Council, and underwritten by Chevalier Drilling, Desorcie's Market, Drummac Septic Service, La Quinta Inn & Suites-St Albans, O. C. McCuin & Sons, and Ray's Extrusion Dies Tubing.
The community based All Arts Council brings the performing arts to northwestern Vermont. The concerts are always on Sunday evenings at 7 p.m., always in a town park, and always free. Bring a blanket or a lawn chair as you settle in to enjoy outdoor family music and festivities. The rain site is the Highgate Methodist Church. http://www.allartscouncil.org/downloads/archive/summersounds-thisweek_19-07-14.pdf
