July 6th: next Montpelier Contra Dance

The first Saturday in July brings another great dance, featuring Don Stratton & Kingfisher. This is part of the year-round "Montpelier Contra Dance" series, organized by the Contra Dance Umbrella.

Don will be leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM, and will teach and call enjoyable, social dances for everyone from 8:00 to 11:00. If you are new to this type of dancing, or would like a refresher on the basics, come on over in time for the intro session.

Don is a Vermont-based caller who calls for community dances like ours all over the state. Also a musician, his calling will help you move to the music and have a great time.

"Kingfisher" is a duo featuring Cecilia Vacanti on fiddle, with Jeff Kaufman on piano, drums and synthesizer. They are regulars on the New England contra circuit, and bring their fresh sounds to get you dancing with the rest of our friendly crowd.

Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our friendly group, and bring your friends!

Capital City Grange Hall is at 6612 Rt. 12/Northfield St., just south of the I-89 overpass, 1 mile south of Montpelier. Admission—basic price is $10 for adults, but $5 for kids & low-income.

Questions? Call Tim Swartz at 802-225-8921 for more info, or see the Contra Dancing page on the Grange website: http://capitalcitygrange.org/dancing/contradancing

We hope you saw the Montpelier Contra Dance float and smiling dancers in the July 3rd parade in Montpelier!
