"Comedies with a Conscience" at the Unadilla July 8

Past event
Jul 8, 2019, 7:30 to 9 PM

On Monday, July 8, at 7:30, I'll be presenting an illustrated talk "Comedies with a Conscience: Social Commentary Through Humor" at the Unadilla Theatre, East Calais.

War, economic depression, inequality, racism, political corruption are all weighty topics, yet they were the themes of several memorable film comedies. Charlie Chaplin made a statement about the dehumanizing effects of factory life in MODERN TIMES, just as Stanley Kubrick attacked the assumptions underlying nuclear strategy in DR. STRANGELOVE. I'll show clips from these films and several others, including DUCK SOUP with the Marx Brothers, and Monty Python's LIFE OF BRIAN.

The Unadilla Theater is on Blachly Road in East Calais. Admission is by donation. For more information, email or call 454-7103.
