This years' benefit concert is the second time David Rosane & The Zookeepers have supported Vermont libraries. "What started out last year as a grassroots effort has blossomed into a statewide project. We now have the support of the Vermont Department of Libraries, were introduced at the Vermont State Legislature, and are getting media attention, local business sponsors, and towns inviting us to play," gushed frontman David Rosane.
This year's tour title is "Across the Zoo-niverse," paralleling with the Summer Reading Program theme used by libraries all over the country: "A Universe of Stories." Concerts will be held in 16 Vermont towns in all parts of the state, with the kick-off concert at Make Music Day Vermont, June 21st at the Fletcher Free Library in Burlington.
All donations raised at each show go to the hosting library to support their programs and needs.
"In addition to fundraising, we really want to draw attention to the often-overlooked role libraries play in our towns. Libraries aren't just places for books. They are vital to liberty and equality. They're community centers, an open space for public events and life-long learning, a place to hang and socialize, a cool place for the lonely, the elderly and special populations," stated Rosane.
Bandmate Jennifer Grossi added, "In many communities in Vermont, libraries are the only places some people can access the Internet. And we're lucky in Vermont-- there are more libraries here per capita than in any other state!"
