About Japanese Pottery: Japan is a pottery country. The oldest pottery found in Japan was made 12,000 years ago. It is the oldest pottery ever found in the world. Since 2,000 years ago, however, Japan started to be influenced by Chinese and Korean pottery. 500 years ago, Japan began developing the tea ceremony, Ikebana (Japanese style flower arrangement) and it’s own new types of pottery.

Toshi has a wide range of pottery to show you, and he will explain the Japanese pottery history. It covers many traditional kilns, Shigaraki, Tanba, Bizen, Kyoto, Echizen, Oribe, Seto, Imari (Arita), Karatsu, Satsuma and Tokoname.

Toshi will also explain the difference between Japanese pottery and Shelburne pottery. Plus he will explain the Japanese culture related to Japanese pottery.
