Wrangling Words Writing Workshop

Experience literary art at Jeudevine Memorial Library in 99 words.

Join visiting literary artist, Charli Mills, for a free flash fiction writing workshop at the Jeudevine Library on Wednesday, July 10th from 7-8 p.m. Participants will learn and practice the 99-word literary art form called Flash Fiction. Flash fiction is small, yet mighty. It's a literary art form that: teaches brevity (every word counts), allows writers to explore story ideas and character development, clarifies craft techniques on a small scale, imprints a problem-solving pattern on the brain (opens creativity) and harnesses the power of creative practice

Wrangling Words begins with an explanation of what flash fiction is and offers ideas of literary craft to apply. Charli will offer prompts and guidance. Participants will craft three flash fiction stories that can be imaginative or based on a true story. Each participant will get to share their stories with the group. The activity concludes with appreciative feedback.

The workshop serves to empower diverse voices, help emerging writers find their way, and give experienced writers new tools. This is not the place for critique. Wrangling Words creates safe space for writers to explore, grow, and play. All genres, levels of experience, and interests are welcome.

Charli Mills will also be at the Jeudevine Library Farmers Market table on Friday, July 12 to talk to people and sign books.

Charli Mills is lead buckaroo at a global literary community at CarrotRanch.com. Carrot Ranch is an imaginary place for real writers. She's authored hundreds of flash fiction stories, written over 300 magazine and news articles, and publishes flash fiction anthologies. Carrot Ranch's mission is to make literary art accessible. She lives in Hancock with her veteran spouse and has a rock-picking problem resolved at #CarrotRanchRocks on Facebook.

There will be light refreshments. For more information call the Jeudevine Library at 472-5948.
