Senior Center Hike: Preston Preserve Trails - June 25

Past event
Jun 25, 2019, 9 AM to 1 PM

Tuesday June 25th: Hike on the Preston Forest Legacy Trails with the Bolton/Richmond/Huntington Senior Center. Meet at Volunteers' Green at 9:00 am, and walk (3/4 mile each way) to the trailhead on Cochran Road. Then there are two options: upper and lower loops. The lower loop ('Merritt Parkway') starts at the trailhead, climbs steadily with numerous switchbacks in a generally southerly direction, reaching an altitude of about 600 feet. The descent leaves the Preston Preserve land where the trail becomes a path next to St. Mary's Cemetery.
The upper loop is a moderately strenuous hike in a loop, starting and finishing on Cochran Road. Total distance about 3 miles on trail; elevation gain about 650 feet; probably 3 hours of hiking. Bring the usual -- water, good footwear, hat, extra clothing layer (rain jacket), bug-repellent (watch out for ticks), snack. Optional: sunscreen, binoculars, camera, walking poles. The forecast possibility of showers should not deter us!
