Burke Mountain Club Centennial Celebration

Past event
Jun 22, 2019, 10 AM to 4 PM

The cake and ice cream have been ordered, the entertainment is booked and the displays and games ready! Please join the Burke Mountain Club on Saturday, June 22, as we celebrate 100 years of building community, while paying tribute to Burke Mountain Club founder and philanthropist, Elmer Darling.

Inside the Club House, there will be numerous historical displays including the Darling Family Tree, examples of Elmer Darling's architectural drawings from his days at MIT and numerous vintage photos of Burke. Clothing, dishes and many other items from the Darling mansion and the Fifth Avenue Hotel, will give a glimpse into the Gilded Age
Outside on the lawn, entertainment will include a Square Dancing Demonstration by Country Corner Squares, rousing tunes from the St. Johnsbury Band, and the intriguing rhythms of the Drumatics, Linda Warnaar's awesome women's drumming circle. There will be games for the young and the young at heart, including shuffleboard, horseshoes, hoop rolling, spin painting, lawn bowling and many more. Children will have a chance to make toys that would have entertained their peers 100 years ago.

Down at the White School House Museum, visitors will have a chance to see many old tools and other artifacts on display in this authentic early nineteenth century school house. There will also be craft demonstrations of rug hooking, quilting and wool spinning.

You can bring a picnic to enjoy on the lawn or take advantage of the great food options available in East Burke. And, of course, what would a party be without cake and ice cream (and popcorn and watermelon)! So come on down to the Burke Mountain Club located at 368 Vermont Route 114, in the center of East Burke Village between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on June 22nd for a great time. All events are free!
