BugFest is being held June 30, 2-10 pm, North Branch Nature Center!
Montpelier's premier summer nature festival for all ages!
Come celebrate all things creepy and crawly at an insect festival for all ages. This year's festival features Vermont's native pollinators. Visitors can join nature walks, explore exhibits, attend workshops by local biologists, participate in activities just for kids, and much more. Come learn what bugs do for you, and what you can do for them!
BugFest 2019's featured programs include 1) a pollinator gardening program by the Vermont Garden Journal's Charlie Nardozzi, 2) a world-class, hands-on caterpillar exhibit by The Caterpillar Lab, and 3) field walks by the Vermont Center for Ecostudies. NBNC's educators and naturalists will offer fun-filled activities all afternoon and late into the night. Delicious Jamaican fare offered by the Montpelier-based Kool Runninz.
Why celebrate insects? A mosquito bite or bee sting may not be the highlight of your summer, but insects are the oil that keeps the entire ecosystem engine running. Over 75% of our wild plants, 60% of our birds, and one-third of our agricultural crops depend on insects. Recent research has revealed precipitous declines in insect populations around the world, making it more important than ever to admire and understand these important critters.
Admission by Donation. Thanks to our sponsors: Hunger Mountain Co-op, Catamount Solar, and Onion River Outdoors.
