The Vermont Chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association is hosting its annual event at the Lake Morey Inn in Fairlee Vermont on Saturday April 5, 2014. Cost is $15.00
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological movement disorder of the central nervous system, which has a unique impact on each patient. According to the American Parkinson Disease Association, the Parkinson’s Action Network, the Parkinson’s disease Foundation, the National Parkinson Foundation, and the National Institutes of Health, there are over one million Americans diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.
The purpose of Awareness Day is to provide a forum to increase education and support which are greatly needed to undertake the multidisciplinary care approach to Parkinson’s disease. This approach includes local wellness, support, and caregiver groups complementary therapies, and exercise.
Awareness Day activities include dynamic presenters and speakers. Peter Davison will be doing a presentation on the Four Dimensions of Living Well, and will hold a Laughter Workshop at the end of the day. Janet Edmunson will be holding a discussion on the Importance of Positive Emotions for Caregivers. Physical Therapists Hannah Zajac, Christie Stembach-Feist, and Linda Helms will be conducting a Big and Loud Training with the audience.
There will also be a talent display where PD patients will be sharing their talents. In the past these have included paintings, drawings, cards, knitting, quilting, woodwork, music, and photography.
