Race Conversation on Thursday

Past event
Jun 18, 2019, 6:30 to 7:30 PM

Please consider joining us at the Waterbury Library on Tuesday, June 18, 6:30-7:30 for the second Race Relations session. The series discusses Ijeoma Oluo's book "So You Want to Talk About Race?" See the library website at https://www.waterburypubliclibrary.com/2015/01/race-conversations-5-21-wed/

This week we focus on Chapter One, "Is it really about race?", where Oluo walks through three guidelines. "If you are looking for a simple way to determine whether something is about race, here are some basic rules. And when I say basic, I mean basic: 1. It is about race if a person of color thinks it is about race. 2. It is about race if it disproportionately or differently affects people of color. 3. It is about race if it fits into a broader pattern of events that disproportionately or differently affects people of color."

Even if you haven't done the reading, there will be plenty to discuss. Looking forward to it!
