Shooting the Fire Ceremony

Past event
Jun 21, 2019, 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM

Performed on the Summer Solstice, this Abenaki tradition is where participants take tobacco leaves and breath or sing their good wishes into them for the coming year, the tobacco is burned and then an arrow is lit from the flame. The arrow is then shot to the Sun to carry those good wishes to the sky. Come and join us as our Abenaki partners perform this ceremony. Please arrive at 11:30 sharp as the arrow must be released before noon. Out of respect for the traditional beliefs of the Abenakis, no photography of the ceremony is permitted.
