The VT Department of Fish & Wildlife is proposing new land posting requirements which will impact YOU as a landowner, or simply as someone who values landowners' rights.
They are hosting a public meeting this Wednesday, March 19th at the Pavilion Building, State St, Montpelier from 6-8 pm where they'll be taking public comments on the proposed new rules.
Among the many proposed changes, for those who have streams, rivers etc…on your property, this rule will (if passed) prohibit you from posting "No Fishing" signage on your own land and allow people to access your land to fish unless you have stocked the water with fish yourself! There is no statutory authority for the F&W Department to require this.
If you are concerned, but you cannot attend the hearing on Wednesday, it is imperative that you send an email to the Commissioner of Fish & Wildlife, Patrick Berry: patrick.berry@state.vt.us and please send a copy to meowvet1@gmail.com with the subject line: Comments Re: F&W Proposed Posting Rule.
You may also post your comments to Vermont Fish & Wildlife’s Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/vtfishandwildlife but these will not likely be regarded as official comments.
Here is the link to the full F&W proposal. Please note that any underlined verbiage is newly proposed and any strike-outs are items they're looking to remove.
