Northfield's first "Repair Cafe" will open its doors next Saturday, June 15th, at 10:00 AM, at the Northfield Middle & High School.
I will be one of the "fixers" there, bringing tools and supplies for small-scale woodworking and furniture repairs, like re-gluing joints, installing hardware, etc. Bring over those small-scale items that you can carry in, and I'll see what I can do. Even if I can't repair it on the spot, I'll be happy to give you advice on what you can do to repair it yourself, where to buy any needed parts, etc. Let us know what you want help with by sending an email to: repaircafenorthfield@gmail.com so we can have the best tools and supplies on hand.
What is a Repair Cafe? Check out the description at the Central VT Solid Waste Management District: http://www.cvswmd.org/what-is-a-repair-cafe.html These are all-volunteer, free events, where people who enjoy getting things working again will work on YOUR small items that need a little TLC. At the Northfield event, we'll have people who can work on electronics, small electrical appliances, even small gas engines, bicycles, sewing repairs, wooden cutting boards, and more.
A few have been held in the last couple of years in Central VT--this is the first one in Northfield. We appreciate the sponsorship of the Northfield Schools, which are letting us use the school shop & Home Ec rooms.
We are looking forward to keeping things out of the landfill, and getting them back in use!
